My first (and probably last) photograph to be published on the cover of a national magazine. The bike is mine as well. I have been collecting and restoring vintage motorcycles for well over 20 years now. It keeps me out of trouble (mostly) during our long Minnesota winters. The RE5 has a rotary engine. Suzuki spent untold millions of dollars in research and development to produce these machines. They were sold for only for two model years, 1975 and '76. They did not sell well and Suzuki nearly went out of business absorbing the loss. A total of about 6200 were produced during those two years. I have 4 in my collection. This one is all original, including the tires, and has less than 9000 miles on it. It does get ridden every season, however. I was lucky and picked up mine many years ago when they were cheap and readily available. Their desirability as a collectible bike has increased quite a bit over the past 5 years. 1975 was a bad time to bring out a motorcycle as thirsty as these babies. I can get mileage as poor as 18 per gallon when ridden in anger. They were Suzuki's answer to the question no one asked. Now if I just could have coaxed a bird into landing on the handlebars. :)
